Detroit Sends Message: Pistons End Lakers’ 9-Game Streak in Thriller

  • Mar 23
  • 2 min read

Hold on… hold on… HOLD ON A SECOND.

No Cade Cunningham… Going up against Luka Dončić, LeBron James, and a Los Angeles Lakers squad riding a 9-game winning streak?

And you mean to tell me the Detroit Pistons STILL walked out of Little Caesars Arena with a 113-110 W?

Oh yeah… we gotta talk about it.

THIS AIN’T LUCK — THIS IS IDENTITY

Let me say this loud enough for the folks in the back:

This version of the Detroit Pistons is DIFFERENT.

No Cade? No problem.

The Pistons improved to 8-2 without their All-Star floor general, and that’s not by accident — that’s culture, that’s depth, that’s accountability.

That’s a team that doesn’t fold when adversity shows up knocking like it’s the police at 3 AM.

DANISS JENKINS… WHO SAID “NEXT MAN UP”?

Put some RESPECT on Daniss Jenkins’ name.

This man walked into that game like he had something to prove and left with:

  • 30 points

  • 8 assists

  • 11-of-18 shooting

  • 4-of-5 from THREE

Efficient. Poised. Surgical.

And let’s not ignore the trend:

  • Pistons are 9-2 when Jenkins starts

  • Averaging 15 PPG & 7 APG in that role

That’s not a fluke, that’s production.

That’s a man capitalizing on opportunity like it’s Black Friday and everything is 90% off.

JALEN DUREN IS BULLYING THE LEAGUE

And then there’s Jalen Duren…

Good LORD.

  • 20 points

  • 11 rebounds

  • Game-saving defensive stop on Luka to seal it

But the real story? His recent stretch:

  • 26.6 PPG

  • 10.4 RPG

  • 71.4% FG

That ain’t just “playing well.”

That’s dominance.

That's the “I’m imposing my will on grown men” type of basketball.

LUKA GOT NUMBERS… BUT NOT THE LAST WORD

Now let’s be fair.

Luka Dončić still did what superstars do:

  • 32 points

  • 7 rebounds

  • 6 assists

But let’s not get it twisted…

It was a STRUGGLE.

  • 11-of-29 shooting

  • 3-of-13 from deep

And when it mattered most?

That game-tying attempt in the final seconds?

MISSED.

That’s defense. That’s pressure. That’s Detroit making you uncomfortable, like wearing a winter coat in July.

BIGGER PICTURE — THIS IS A CONTENDER

Let’s zoom out.

The Pistons are now:

  • 52-19

  • Holding firm as the No. 1 seed in the East

Ahead of:

  • Boston Celtics

  • New York Knicks

And they’re doing this while missing their BEST PLAYER.

That tells me everything I need to know.

This team?

They have heart. They got depth. And most importantly… they got belief.

BUT LET’S NOT GET CARRIED AWAY

Now pump the brakes just a little bit.

Because I’m not here for regular-season parades.

Let me remind you:

Last time Detroit won a playoff series?

2008.

Yeah… it’s been THAT long.

So while this win is impressive — and it absolutely is — the real evaluation comes in April.

Because in the playoffs?

Everybody’s record is 0-0.

FINAL WORD

This wasn’t just a win.

This was a statement.

A message to the league that Detroit isn’t just cute… They’re not just a feel-good story…

They’re coming.

And when Cade gets back?

Ohhh… you better believe it.

DETROIT VS EVERYBODY.
