Jared Goff Was Terrible, and So Were the Lions in Week 1

I don’t even know where to start.

Because what the Detroit Lions put on the field Sunday in Green Bay was nothing short of an embarrassment.

An unmitigated disaster.

A straight-up stinker.

We’re talking about a team that came into the season with Super Bowl expectations.

A team that went 15-2 last year. A team that was supposed to use that playoff collapse against the Commanders as fuel to go further this season.

And what do they do in Week 1?

They go to Lambeau Field, wet the bed, and walk out with a 27-13 beatdown.

Let’s talk facts.

Jared Goff — the supposed leader of this offense — looked rattled. He wasn’t poised. He wasn’t decisive. He wasn’t sharp.

He finished with 225 yards, sure, but he was sacked four times, threw a backbreaking red zone interception, and never once looked in control.

He looked like a man who wanted no part of that Packers pass rush.

And don’t get me started on the run game.

David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs?

A combined 44 yards on 20 carries. That’s the lowest per-carry average we’ve seen from Detroit in almost two years.

TWO YEARS!

You mean to tell me the team that prided itself on smashmouth football, that dominated teams in the trenches, suddenly can’t run the ball against Green Bay?

Unacceptable.

The offensive line, missing Frank Ragnow, looked like Swiss cheese.

They let Goff get pressured all day, and that new-look Packers defensive front — with Micah Parsons now lining up in green and gold after that blockbuster trade — had a field day.

Detroit couldn’t block a nosebleed.

Meanwhile, Jordan Love sat in the pocket like he was in a La-Z-Boy recliner.

The man was making Thanksgiving dinner, calling Uber Eats, and watching Netflix back there; he had so much time.

He carved Detroit’s defense up with ease.

The Packers receivers made plays. Their run game kept the Lions honest. Their coaching staff had the perfect plan.

Green Bay flat-out dominated in every phase.

And let’s not ignore the bigger picture here. This isn’t just about one game. This is about a team that might be suffering a real hangover.

You can’t go 15-2, blow a playoff bye against a rookie quarterback, and then follow it up by laying an egg in Week 1.

The Lions looked lost.

They looked uninspired. And worst of all, they looked like a team that bought into its own hype.

Now listen, it’s Week 1. I get it. It’s a long season.

But I’ve been around this game long enough to know when something looks off.

And the Detroit Lions?

They look off.

The energy wasn’t there. The fight wasn’t there. The execution wasn’t there.

And if this is a sign of things to come?

Detroit fans, buckle up, because it’s going to be a long, frustrating season.
