You Can Argue All You Want — Cam Newton Is One of the Greatest College QBs Ever

I don’t care where you stand on the “Cam Newton conversation” — whether his hats annoy you, his fits confuse you, or his touchdown celebrations made you roll your eyes — you can’t deny his greatness.

Cam Newton didn’t just play quarterback at Auburn; he redefined what dominance looked like in college football.

One year. One Heisman. One legacy that’ll live forever on the Plains.

And now, his No. 2 jersey will never be worn again.

Saturday night, under those Jordan-Hare lights, Auburn did what every college that’s ever had a generational player should do: they gave Cam Newton his flowers while he could still smell them.

That moment hit different. The lights dimmed, the crowd roared, and the energy was Southern football royalty.

Cam stood there, shades on, smile wide, and you could tell it meant everything.

“Words can’t even express the amount of gratitude that I’m walking in right now,” Cam said. “To be able to share this moment with my friends and family — that’s what it’s all about.”

And look, Auburn’s been home to some legends — Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan, Terry Beasley — but Cam Newton?

He’s in a category by himself. Dude gave us one season that felt like an entire era.

His 2010 season was iconic: Heisman Trophy winner. National champion. Consensus All-American.

Cam led Auburn to a 14-0 record, an SEC championship, and a BCS national title over Oregon — Auburn’s most recent national title, by the way.

He threw for almost 3,000 yards, rushed for almost 1,500, and accounted for 50 touchdowns.

50!

That wasn’t football; that was an action movie in cleats.

Cam Newton was Lamar Jackson before Lamar Jackson. Jalen Hurts before Jalen Hurts. And still Cam Newton before anybody else.

So yeah, Auburn got it right.

Because no matter what you think of Cam off the field, the man earned this. He earned it through dominance, leadership, and unapologetic authenticity.

He was loud, proud, different, and that’s exactly what greatness looks like when it doesn’t care about fitting in.

Now, his No. 2 is off-limits forever. And rightfully so.

As Cam said himself:

“When I came to Auburn, I wanted to be better than Bo Jackson. I’m challenging the next generation to say, ‘I want to be better than Cam Newton.’”

That’s not ego — that’s legacy talk. That’s the standard.

So yeah… say what you want about Cam.

But make sure you say it with respect.
